Reflection - questions about identity
How can we demonstrate that specific place and time determines the construction of identity?
The construction of our identity is influenced by the environment that we live in and the people that make part of our lives because what you really are is the reflect of how you have been educated and what you and your family had lived and experienced. For example, the TV show ¨Francisco el matemático ¨ shows the reality in which the kids of lower status live and they show that the problems they experienced at home and the environment affect the way they are. To be more specific, in this show a character called Mariana has a difficult situation in her house because his dad is an alcoholic who doesn't treat his family well, so Mariana shows an attitude of rudeness towards his friends and teachers.
Even though you haven't lived the conflicts that had happened in your country directly, they affect the way you are indirectly. For example, when the colonization of our country occurred, the spanish people treated the indigenous and slaves as ¨ animals ¨ and they felt superior to them. Even if this event happened a long time ago and despite of the bad treatment that they gave to us, we still feel inferior.
To conclude, we can demonstrate that a place and time determine the construction of our identity because everything that had happend in the past affects who we are nowadays. In this case the past represents the time and the space in our country Colombia. Despite the time in which the different events have happened in the history of our country, they still define who we are.
What is the role of artistic manifestations in the construction of the social and cultural identity?
The role of artistic manifestations in the construction of the social and cultural identity is that through arts, people express their feelings and opinions about the reality and situation they live. For example, the graffitis show many aspects of the society and some of them criticize the political aspects and also through them, they manifestate and send a message for the population.
How does the creation of your album or cover help you constructing your own identity as a member of Latin-American community?
The creation of our albums helped us constructing our own identity as a member of Latin-American community because we learned about different conflicts and events that had happened in the history of our continent and we noticed that those events marked us and influenced on the construction of our identity. Also, we get through them and learn that even though they already happen, they affect us indirectly. For example, my cover represents the conflict of "la bomba del centro de la 93".
To conclude, they helped us to reflect about the reality we are experiencing everyday because of the conflict and we could notice that we have to make something about it.
